About Krista
Krista Zambolin is a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst with more than 25 years of experience supporting autistic children and individuals with developmental disabilities. Her career has included work across homes, schools, preschools, clinics, and community environments, giving her extensive experience helping families translate behavioural strategies into everyday life.
Krista has supported hundreds of children and families throughout her career. Her clinical work includes comprehensive behavioural and functional assessment, individualized treatment planning, Positive Behaviour Support, Functional Communication Training, skill development, parent coaching, and supporting children with complex communication, behavioural, adaptive, feeding, social, and school-related needs.
A central part of Krista's approach is understanding why a behaviour is happening rather than simply trying to make it disappear. She uses assessment, observation, collaboration, and data to understand what a behaviour may be communicating or accomplishing for the individual and then works with the client, family, and other members of the care team to develop practical supports.
Her approach to behaviour analysis emphasizes compassion, flexibility, and meaningful relationships. Krista believes effective intervention should be individualized to the person rather than asking the person to fit a predetermined program. Strategies also need to make sense within the client's actual home, school, and community environments if they are going to be useful over time.
Krista has extensive experience working alongside parents and caregivers. She recognizes that families bring essential knowledge about their child and that meaningful behaviour support is strongest when clinicians and caregivers work collaboratively. Parent coaching is therefore an important part of her practice, helping families understand behaviour, develop practical strategies, and build skills they can use outside therapy sessions.
Interdisciplinary collaboration has been a significant part of Krista's career. She has worked alongside psychologists, Speech-Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, physicians, educators, behaviour interventionists, and community agencies.
At Allied Therapy, this experience allows her to contribute to coordinated care when behaviour intersects with communication, sensory needs, development, learning, mental health, or participation in everyday activities.
Krista brings significant experience in inclusive education and early childhood programming. She founded and directed an inclusive preschool serving children with and without disabilities, mentored educators in inclusive practices, collaborated with school districts and allied health professionals, and supported children and families as they transitioned into Kindergarten. She has experience teaching learners with varied learning styles and academic needs, especially with students in the middle school through high school age groups.
Throughout her career, Krista has supervised Behaviour Consultants, program managers, therapists, students, and intervention teams. She has trained parents, educators, and professionals and has led multidisciplinary case conferences and clinical meetings for children with complex needs.
Her work is grounded in evidence-informed decision-making. Krista has presented applied research at international conferences, contributed to professional education, and published in the Journal of Precision Teaching and Celeration. She has presented more than 20 peer-reviewed papers, workshops, posters, and symposia through professional behaviour-analysis and Precision Teaching conferences.
After building her career in British Columbia, Krista returned home to Nova Scotia and joined Allied Therapy to work more directly with clients and as part of a multidisciplinary clinical team.
For Krista, successful behaviour support is not about changing someone simply to make them easier to manage. It is about understanding what is happening, developing meaningful skills and supports, and helping individuals participate more successfully in the environments and activities that matter to them.
