Where Your Child Belongs: Supportive Summer Groups in Bedford
Your Child’s Summer Support System
Many parents worry that their child’s unique needs will not be met in traditional summer programs. Others assume that programs led by qualified professionals must be exclusive or cost-prohibitive.
At Allied Therapy, we are changing that. Our weekly summer groups in Bedford offer children the chance to build skills and connect with peers in a structured, supportive environment. Whether your child has speech, sensory, or behavioural goals, they will be supported by our dedicated clinical team in a social, play-based setting.
What Makes Our Groups Different?
-
Multidisciplinary Approach: Sessions are led by qualified Speech-Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, and Behaviour Therapists working together.
-
Open to the Community: These groups are not limited to current clients. All children are welcome to join.
-
Balanced Scheduling: Our one-hour, once-a-week format allows families to maintain progress without the "summer slide" or the stress of an intensive daily camp.
-
Sensory-Friendly & Structured: We use evidence-based strategies to keep children engaged while respecting their unique sensory and communication needs.

The Social Toolkit
Schedule: Tuesdays and Wednesdays in July and August
Ages: 8 to 13
Time: 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM
Our Social Toolkit groups are designed to enhance interpersonal skills and emotional regulation in a relaxed, peer-led setting. To ensure your child feels most comfortable, we offer two groups based on their natural interests. Both groups are led by our skilled clinical team and focus on building genuine social connections.
Choose Your Group:
Tuesday: Creative is best for children who enjoy art, self-care, and social storytelling. In this group, we use creative activities like colouring and painting "kindness rocks" as a backdrop for learning complex social rules. Group members will practice the "Social Filter" (discerning what to think vs. what to say), navigating the nuances of gossip vs. news, and building self-esteem through art.
Wednesday: Action & Interests that are best for those who connect through hobbies like Pokémon, Lego, and building. In this track, shared interests are the bridge to friendship. Group members will practice social initiation, perspective-taking, and sportsmanship. This group may include planned walks near our Bedford clinic to practice social safety and group awareness.

Exploratory Eaters
Schedule: Fridays in July and August
Ages: 4 to 10
Time: 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM
Is your child a picky eater or facing feeding challenges? Join our Dino-Discovery mission! This weekly group is designed to help children expand their food flexibility in a supportive, social, and zero-pressure environment.
Our therapists lead "explorers" through a systematic hierarchy of interaction- moving from visual tolerance to touch, smell, and eventually tasting.
What Makes This Group Different?
-
The Dino Bridge: We use familiar dinosaur-shaped "anchor foods" to help children feel safe while exploring new textures.
-
The 8-Week Color Roadmap: Every week features a new "Dino Territory" defined by color and texture (e.g., The Red Lava Field, The Green Jungle).
-
The 6-Step Hierarchy: We never force a bite. Instead, we celebrate every "Dino Stomp" or "T-Rex Lick" as a massive win for oral sensory confidence.
-
Hunger Cue Alignment: Scheduled just before lunch, this session utilizes natural hunger cues to encourage genuine curiosity about new foods.

Move & Groovers
Schedule: Tuesdays in July and August
Ages: 4 to 7
Time: 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM
Get ready to stomp, crawl, and balance! Move & Groovers is a high-energy, weekly movement group that uses imaginative "Animal Adventures" to target gross motor development.
Let's get some energy out.
Every session follows a structure to ensure children are building strength and coordination safely and successfully:
-
The Animal Huddle (Proprioception): We start with "Heavy Work" (like Elephant Stomps or Rhino Pushes) to help children find their bodies and regulate their energy.
-
The Skill of the Week (Balance & Strength): We introduce a specific animal pose like the "Flamingo Balance" or "Inchworm Stretch" to target core stability and static balance.
-
The Jungle Course (Dynamic Coordination): Children navigate a themed obstacle course, practicing bilateral coordination as they crawl through "vines" and hop over "alligator swamps."
-
The Sleeping Lion (Regulation): We end with a purposeful cool-down, teaching children how to transition from high-energy play to a calm, focused state.

Ready for September
Schedule: Thursdays in July and August
Ages: 4 to 6
Time: 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM
Is your child preparing for a new school year? Ready for September is a weekly group designed to bridge the gap between summer break and classroom expectations. Led by our multidisciplinary team of Speech-Language Pathologists and Occupational Therapists, this program focuses on the "hidden" skills of school success from following a circle time routine to mastering the tools in a pencil case.
Our School Readiness Roadmap:
-
Circle Time & Literacy (Phonological Awareness): We begin each session with a structured group lesson, practicing letter sounds, and joint attention during shared stories.
-
The Fine Motor Studio (Tool Competency): Children engage in "Desk Work" challenges designed to improve pencil grasp, scissor safety, and bilateral coordination (using a "helper hand" while cutting or gluing).
-
Instructional Independence: We practice multi-step tasks (e.g., "Color, then cut, then glue") to build executive functioning and the ability to follow classroom directions.
-
The "Lunchbox" & Self-Care Challenge: We incorporate practical life skills, such as opening containers, packing a bag, and managing personal belongings independently.
Don't wait for the "Summer Slide" to set in. Help your child start the school year on the right foot.
