About Grace

Grace Perry is a Provisional Occupational Therapist with a background in kinesiology, disability management, rehabilitation, mental health, and supporting independence in everyday life. She completed her Master of Occupational Therapy at Dalhousie University after earning an Honours Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and a Certificate in Disability Management.

Grace's clinical experience has given her a strong foundation in helping people participate more safely, confidently, and independently in the activities that matter to them. Her rehabilitation experience has included assessment of self-care, activities of daily living, and instrumental activities of daily living, as well as home assessment, discharge planning, adaptive equipment, and collaboration with interdisciplinary healthcare teams.

Her mental health experience has strengthened her understanding of the relationship between mental health and everyday functioning. Grace has supported adults experiencing complex mental health needs with employment planning, recovery and relapse-prevention planning, group programming, sensory and interoception strategies, and practical daily living activities such as cooking, grocery planning, and establishing supportive home routines.

Grace's education in Disability Management adds another perspective to her Occupational Therapy practice. Her training includes workplace accommodation, injury prevention, return-to-work planning, and developing safe and sustainable strategies for participating in employment.

She brings a particularly practical problem-solving approach to Occupational Therapy. Before entering the profession, Grace worked in hands-on environments including boat building, construction, repairs, and building maintenance. These experiences strengthened her ability to look closely at how a person, task, and physical environment interact and to find practical ways of making activities safer, easier, or more accessible.

Grace values collaborative, strengths-based, and person-centred care. Rather than beginning with what someone cannot do, she works to understand what matters to the person, what they would like to accomplish, and what may be getting in the way. Together, they can then explore strategies, environmental changes, equipment, skills, or routines that support greater participation in everyday life.

As a neurodivergent and queer clinician, Grace brings lived experience to her commitment to neurodivergent-affirming and 2SLGBTQIA+-affirming care. She recognizes that shared identities do not mean shared experiences, but understands how meaningful it can be to access care in a space where aspects of your identity do not need to be explained, minimized, or treated as something to change. Grace aims to create a therapeutic environment where clients can feel comfortable being themselves while working toward goals that are meaningful to them.

She has a particular interest in neurodivergent-affirming Occupational Therapy, sensory processing, interoception, complex needs, and helping individuals develop strategies that work with their strengths and support meaningful participation. Grace is continuing to develop her paediatric practice while drawing on her experience in rehabilitation, mental health, disability management, and functional independence.

For Grace, Occupational Therapy is ultimately about helping people find practical ways to participate in the activities and roles that are important to them.
