ALLIED THERAPY · FUNDING & ACCESS

Therapy for Children in Care & Foster Families in Nova Scotia

We meet children, adults, and families where they are- at our clinic, in partner locations, in your community, and virtually across Nova Scotia

A referral is not required to access services

About This Funding Program

Nova Scotia's Child and Family Wellbeing services support children, youth and families, including children in care and foster care. Service arrangements depend on the child's care plan, applicable consent and decision-making authority, and authorization by the responsible agency. Private allied health services are not automatically funded simply because a child is in care. We are happy to support any children waiting for services in the public system.

How Allied Therapy Can Help

Our speech-language pathologists support speech, language, literacy, feeding, stuttering, social communication and AAC.

Occupational therapists support sensory regulation, fine motor skills, toileting support,  and participation.

Behaviour analysts provide individualized, neurodivergent-affirming skill and support planning.

Play therapy can support children who have experienced trauma or who are going through big life changes.

Other services can be discussed according to age and clinical fit. We can provide information for care plans and work with authorized service coordinators.

We can also collaborate with schools, foster parents and care teams, with appropriate permissions, to support continuity during transitions. We are happy to support children while on the waitlist for the public system, .

How Funding Works

A caregiver, social worker or agency representative can contact Allied Therapy to discuss clinical needs and available services. Before booking agency-funded therapy, we confirm the person authorized to consent, any information-sharing permissions, the referral and care-plan requirements, the approved scope or number of sessions, and the invoicing contact. Written funding approval is obtained as applicable. An inquiry does not guarantee government payment.

Who Can Access or Refer

Child and family wellbeing social workers, Mi'kmaw Family and Children's Services representatives, foster parents, kinship caregivers, guardians, healthcare providers, schools and other support professionals may inquire. Appointment consent and payment authorization must be confirmed with the person or agency legally responsible.
