ALLIED THERAPY · FUNDING & ACCESS

Autism Therapy & Funding Options in Nova Scotia

We meet children, adults, and families where they are- at our clinic, in partner locations, in your community, and virtually across Nova Scotia

A referral is not required to access services

About This Funding Program

Nova Scotia has several distinct services and programs that may support autistic people and their families. Some provide public services, some address respite or disability support, and others may offer individualized funding. There is no single provincial cash benefit that automatically pays for all private autism therapy services at Allied Therapy.

How Allied Therapy Can Help

Our speech-language pathologists support speech, language, literacy, feeding, stuttering, social communication and AAC.

Occupational therapists support sensory regulation, fine motor skills, toileting support,  and participation.

Behaviour analysts focuses on personalized skill-building, choice, autonomy and respectful positive support.

Play Therapy offers a trauma informed way to support mental health and big life changes without expecting the child to communicate verbally.

We can collaborate with family and community teams when requested.

How Funding Works

Reach out with the person’s age, priorities, preferred service and any funding details you already have. We can provide service options, estimated fees and appropriate documentation. You or your funding coordinator should confirm private therapy eligibility and prior authorization before appointments. Private insurance or Jordan’s Principle may be relevant for some families, and DSP pathways may be relevant for eligible participants.

Who Can Access or Refer

Autistic people, families and guardians, schools, health professionals, case coordinators and community organizations.

Q: Do you offer Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC)? A: Yes. Check out some information on our approach here.

Q: Do you use a neurodivergent-affirming approach? A: Yes. Absolutely. We are incredibly lucky to have therapists that are Autistic on our team and we listen carefully to their recommendations on how to keep our therapy and space safe for all of our clients.
