Are your services covered by insurance or funding programs?

Many extended health plans provide coverage for services delivered by regulated professionals. Coverage depends on your plan, the profession providing the service, and the type of appointment. Confirm your coverage, referral requirements, annual limits, and direct-billing rules with your insurer.We will also direct bill the province, Jordan's Principle, and other funding programs to support our client's access to services.

Do you offer therapy at home or in schools?

Yes! We provide therapy in our Bedford clinic, at client's home, in schools, and via telehealth to ensure accessibility for families across Nova Scotia. We also collaborate with community partners and caregivers to create the best possible support system.

How long does therapy take, and how often are sessions?

The length and frequency of therapy depend on the individual's needs and goals. Some clients benefit from weekly sessions, while others may require a different schedule. After an assessment, we will recommend a plan that best supports progress.

Do I need a referral?

No. You can contact Allied Therapy or book a consultation without a medical referral. However, some insurance plans and funding programs may require one, so we recommend confirming your plan’s requirements before beginning services.

What should I bring to the first appointment?

It can also help to write down your priorities and questions. Do not worry if you do not have everything, we will figure it out with you.

What happens during the first appointment?

Your therapist will learn about your concerns, strengths, goals, history, and daily experiences. Depending on the service, the appointment may include an interview, observation, standardized assessment, informal activities, questionnaires, or collaborative planning. Your therapist will explain the process and discuss recommended next steps.

Appointment length varies by service. Many treatment appointments are booked for 60 minutes, generally including approximately 50 minutes of direct service and 10 minutes for documentation. Assessments, consultations, groups, and legal services may require different appointment lengths.

Does Allied Therapy offer direct billing?

We can direct bill many participating insurance plans. Direct billing is not guaranteed, and clients are responsible for any amount not paid by their insurer. If direct billing is unavailable, we will provide a detailed receipt that you can submit for reimbursement.

Is Allied Therapy neurodivergent-affirming?

Yes. We recognize autism, ADHD, and other forms of neurodivergence as natural differences in how people experience and interact with the world. We focus on each person’s goals, communication, autonomy, access needs, strengths, safety, and quality of life rather than trying to make someone appear less neurodivergent.

Do I need a diagnosis to access Allied Therapy services?

No.  Allied Therapy services do not require a formal diagnosis or medical referral. Support is based on the person’s concerns, strengths, functional needs, and goals.A diagnosis may be required by a particular insurer or funding program. We recommend confirming any eligibility requirements before beginning services.

Does Allied Therapy diagnose autism or ADHD?

Allied Therapy does not currently provide formal autism or ADHD diagnoses.Our clinicians can complete service-specific assessments, identify functional needs, provide non-diagnostic ADHD screening, and support communication, sensory processing, executive functioning, daily activities, behaviour, relationships, and mental health.If you are seeking a formal diagnosis, we recommend speaking with a physician, nurse practitioner, psychologist, or another qualified diagnostic provider.

The free 20-minute consultation is an opportunity to briefly discuss what you are looking for, ask general questions, and learn which Allied Therapy service may be an appropriate starting point.It is not a clinical assessment, therapy session, diagnostic appointment, or source of individualized treatment recommendations. A formal appointment may be recommended if clinical assessment or advice is needed.

How soon can I get an appointment?

Availability varies by service, clinician, appointment location, preferred time, and the type of support requested.Our team will explain the current options and work with you to find an appropriate fit. Clients with flexibility for daytime, virtual, or community appointments may have more scheduling options.If your preferred therapist or time is unavailable, we can discuss another clinician, appointment format, or waiting-list option.

Can I change therapists if the fit does not feel right?

A strong therapeutic relationship matters, and every therapist will not be the right fit for every client.If you have concerns about fit, communication style, scheduling, or the therapeutic approach, please tell us. We can discuss adjustments, consultation with the current therapist, or a transfer to another clinician when an appropriate option is available.Requesting a change will not affect your ability to access Allied Therapy services.

Are reports, letters and forms included in the appointment fee?

Routine clinical documentation is included as part of your appointment.Detailed assessment reports, letters, funding applications, insurance forms, legal documents, school documentation, record reviews, and other work completed outside the appointment may involve an additional fee.Your clinician or our office team will explain the expected cost and timeline before completing substantial additional documentation. Some reports may require a formal assessment.

Can Allied Therapy coordinate with my physician, school or other providers?

Yes. With informed consent, our clinicians can communicate with physicians, nurse practitioners, teachers, schools, employers, caregivers, community organizations, and other members of your care team.Collaboration may include sharing relevant reports, discussing recommendations, attending meetings, or coordinating goals. Additional fees may apply when substantial preparation, travel, documentation, or meeting time is required.You can choose what information may be shared and can withdraw consent, subject to legal or safety-related limits.

Does Allied Therapy accept third-party funding?

Yes. Allied Therapy may work with approved third-party funders such as Jordan’s Principle, Nova Scotia’s Disability Support Program, schools, employers, community organizations, workplace insurers, and other agencies.Funding must normally be approved before services are provided. Requirements vary, and approval is determined by the funding organization- not Allied Therapy.We can provide quotes, invoices, service plans, reports, or other documentation when appropriate. Clients are responsible for costs that are not authorized or paid by the funder.

Are travel and community appointments charged differently?

Travel, mileage, or additional service time may apply when appointments are provided in homes, schools, workplaces, or community locations.Charges depend on the location, distance, service agreement, funding arrangement, and time required. We will explain the anticipated travel costs before confirming the appointment whenever possible.Community appointments are available only within current service areas and are subject to clinician availability.

How does Allied Therapy protect client privacy?

Allied Therapy collects, uses, stores, and shares personal health information in accordance with applicable privacy laws and professional standards.Information is shared with the client’s consent or when permitted or required by law. Limits to confidentiality may apply when there is a serious safety concern, child-protection obligation, legal requirement, or another situation in which disclosure is authorized or required.Your clinician will explain confidentiality, consent, record keeping, and any service-specific privacy considerations. You may ask how your information is handled at any time.

Where do you travel to for community visits?

Our Designated community zone is Bedford, Halifax Peninsula, Lower Sackville, Hammonds Plains, Timberlea, and parts of Dartmouth (Burnside, Dartmouth Crossing, Mic Mac Mall area, Woodlawn, Portland Hills, and Russell Lake). Outside of this travel zone will occur extra travel costs.
