Why Allied Therapy Exists
There is a moment many families know all too well.
You've noticed something doesn't feel quite right. Your child isn't communicating the way you expected. Everyday routines have become harder. School has raised concerns. You're trying to understand what you're seeing while also wondering if you're worrying too much.
So you start looking for help.
One phone call leads to another. You're told to wait. Then you're referred somewhere else. Every provider asks you to tell your story again. One recommends speech therapy. Another suggests occupational therapy. Someone else mentions behaviour support. You're left trying to coordinate appointments, understand unfamiliar terminology, and make important decisions while carrying the emotional weight of simply wanting to help someone you love.
Families deserve better than that.
Throughout my career as a Speech-Language Pathologist, I met incredible people doing excellent work. The problem wasn't the dedication of individual professionals. It was that the system often asked families to become the coordinators, communicators, and navigators of their own care.
I kept asking myself a simple question: What if healthcare worked together the way families need it to?
That question became Allied Therapy.
From the beginning, the vision was never to create another therapy clinic. It was to create a place where professionals collaborate instead of working in isolation, where families are real partners in every decision, and where people leave feeling more informed, more confident, and less overwhelmed than when they arrived.
Everything we do is guided by a few simple beliefs.
Every family deserves clear answers, honest conversations, and practical next steps.
Parents and caregivers know their loved ones better than anyone else, and their perspectives belong at the centre of care.
Different ways of thinking, learning, communicating, and experiencing the world should be understood, respected, and supported.
The best outcomes happen when professionals work together, share knowledge, and see the whole person rather than a single challenge.
And perhaps most importantly, there is always a way forward.
Today, we're putting those beliefs into practice by building a more connected model of care for Nova Scotia. One where families spend less time navigating systems and more time receiving the support they need.
We're building an integrated model of care that brings together speech-language pathology, occupational therapy, behaviour therapy, mental health, executive functioning support, and other services so families can spend less time navigating systems and more time focusing on what matters most.
We're strengthening partnerships with physicians, educators, early childhood professionals, employers, and community organizations because meaningful support doesn't begin and end inside a clinic.
We're creating opportunities for clinicians to learn, collaborate, and build fulfilling careers in an environment where teamwork is part of everyday practice.
We're investing in education, thoughtful technology, and new ways of improving access so more people across Nova Scotia can receive the support they need, when they need it.
Most of all, we're building an organization that families can trust; not simply because of the services we provide, but because of how we make people feel throughout their journey.
About Stephanie
Stephanie Hovey is the Founder and CEO of Allied Therapy and a Speech-Language Pathologist with more than two decades of experience supporting children, adults, and families across a wide range of communication, developmental, and executive functioning needs.
Throughout her career, Stephanie has been driven by a belief that improving healthcare requires more than excellent clinical care. It requires building systems that are easier to navigate, more collaborative, and centred around the people they serve.
This philosophy led her to found Allied Therapy, where multidisciplinary professionals work together to provide coordinated, neurodivergent-affirming care that helps individuals and families move forward with greater confidence.
Alongside her clinical and leadership work, Stephanie has remained actively involved in advancing her profession. She serves as an Assessor for International Applicants (Speech-Language Pathologist and Audiologists) and a member of the Investigation Committee for the Nova Scotia Regulator of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (NSRASLP), helping uphold professional standards and protect the public. She is also a Board Member of The ORDER of WMI and a member of the Canadian Accessibility Network (CAN), while serving as a Professional Mentor for Immigrant Services Association of Nova Scotia (ISANS) in Halifax, contributing to initiatives that strengthen accessibility, collaboration, and innovation within healthcare and the broader community.
Stephanie is passionate about supporting the next generation of clinicians through mentorship and clinical education, while building meaningful partnerships with Dalhousie University as a clinical mentor, physicians, educators, community organizations, and other healthcare providers to improve access to coordinated care.
Her leadership has been recognized with inclusion in the Atlantic Business Magazine Top 50 CEO Awards in both 2025 and 2026, recognizing her commitment to building an organization that values collaboration, innovation, accessibility, and exceptional care.
Although her role has evolved from clinician to founder and organizational leader, the reason she began this work remains unchanged: to help people feel understood, supported, and confident that there is always a way forward.
Thank you for taking the time to learn about Allied Therapy. Whether you choose to work with us or leave with a little more clarity than when you arrived, I hope you know you don't have to navigate this journey alone.
