About This Funding Program

Nova Scotia Student Assistance works with Post-Secondary Accessibility Services (PSAS) to administer two federal grants. The Canada Student Grant for Students with Disabilities offers up to $2,800 per academic year in 2026–27 to eligible students to help with post-secondary study costs. Separately, the Canada Student Grant for Services and Equipment – Students with Disabilities may fund up to $20,000 per school year for approved educational disability-related services and equipment. The Province names learning strategists, tutors, note-takers and assistive technology among possible supports. Students must meet disability verification, student assistance, financial need and designated-program requirements. CSG-DSE requires a separate application in MyPATH.

How Allied Therapy Can Help

Allied Therapy offers executive functioning and ADHD-related support with practical strategies for planning assignments, breaking down tasks, managing deadlines, sustaining attention, organizing study routines, self-advocacy and navigating the transition to post-secondary learning. Depending on qualifications and service scope, some academic-strategy services may be appropriate for consideration as learning-strategist support. Mental health counselling or general therapy is not automatically an approved CSG-DSE expense. Allied Therapy can provide a service description and quote for review by the student’s accessibility office and PSAS.

How Funding Works

First apply for Nova Scotia Student Assistance and indicate that you wish to be assessed as a student with a disability. Complete the disability verification requirements and speak with your institution’s accessibility office or PSAS about education-related support needs. The Services and Equipment Grant requires its own MyPATH application, along with appropriate recommendations and cost estimates. Ask specifically whether Allied Therapy’s proposed academic-strategy service and clinician qualifications meet the grant rules; obtain approval before using sessions as a funded expense. Keep any required receipts and follow PSAS reimbursement procedures.

Who Can Access or Refer

University and college students, campus accessibility advisers, academic support coordinators, health professionals and student support offices may contact Allied Therapy. Students should coordinate CSG-DSE eligibility and approval with their campus accessibility office or Post-Secondary Accessibility Services.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can this grant pay for ADHD coaching?

A: The Province lists learning-strategist services as a possible eligible educational expense, but ADHD coaching by name is not automatically covered. Ask PSAS to assess the specific service, qualifications and cost.

Q: How much funding is available?

A: For 2026–27, the general disability grant can provide up to $2,800 and the separate approved services-and-equipment grant can provide up to $20,000 per school year.

Q: Do I need an ADHD diagnosis?

A: The student must meet the program’s disability verification criteria. ADHD may be recognized, but a diagnosis alone does not establish eligibility for a particular service.

Q: Do I need to be registered in Student Assistance?

A: Yes. The provincial process requires a student assistance application, disability verification and financial-need assessment, among other conditions.

Q: Can students at NSCC or university apply?

A: Yes. Eligible students at designated institutions and programs may apply. Campus accessibility offices can help.

Q: Can Allied Therapy send a quote to my accessibility office?

A: Yes. We can describe the proposed service and fees for consideration before funded appointments are scheduled.

Q: Does the grant cover ordinary counselling or therapy?

A: Not automatically. The grant is specifically for approved disability-related educational supports and equipment that address barriers in post-secondary education.
