Certified Play Therapist

Role: Certified Play Therapist

Location: Bedford, Nova Scotia

Work Model: Hybrid- Clinic & Virtual

Employment: Employee- Full-Time or Part-Time
Schedule: We’re flexible. Whether you’re looking for a few consistent days, evenings, a shorter work week, traditional full-time hours, or something in between, we’re open to building a schedule that works for you, your clients, and the clinic.

Why Allied Therapy? We believe great clinicians do their best work when they have autonomy, flexibility, strong support, and clear expectations. We are looking for a Certified Play therapist who wants to provide thoughtful, individualized care while being part of a collaborative multidisciplinary team.

You bring your clinical judgment and strong rapport building. We provide the clients, administrative support, technology, clinic space, referrals, multidisciplinary team, and infrastructure around you. Our goal is simple: give good clinicians the freedom and support to do good work.

A Role Built Around Your Practice. Mental health professionals come to private practice with different goals. Some want to build a fuller caseload. Others want a few consistent clinical days. We are open to building the role around your training, professional scope, interests, and availability.

Compensation and scheduling are structured based on experience, clinical role, caseload, and the type of employment arrangement that best fits the position. You will be an employee of Allied Therapy, with access to the supports and infrastructure that come with being part of an established clinic.

Flexibility That Actually Means Something. We don't believe every clinician needs the same career. You may prefer longer days and fewer working days, a few consistent clinical blocks each week, or a more traditional schedule. We'll establish clear expectations together and then trust you to manage your work. Depending on your interests and client needs, you may work from our clinic and virtually. The goal is to build a practice that is clinically meaningful, financially sustainable, and workable for your life.

What Makes This Role Different

Clinical Independence Without Isolation. You don't have to practice alone. You'll have access to a multidisciplinary team of other clinicians, Occupational Therapists, Speech-Language Pathologists, Behaviour Analysts, and other Clinical Therapists for consultation and collaboration when appropriate and with client consent.

Neurodivergent-Affirming, Individualized Care

We are particularly interested in clinicians who provide:

  • Certified Play Therapy for children and youth;

  • neurodivergent-affirming therapy;

  • support for ADHD and autistic teens and adults;

  • therapy related to anxiety, regulation, burnout, identity, relationships, trauma, or life transitions; or

  • other areas that complement Allied Therapy's multidisciplinary services.

We believe therapy should adapt to the person , not require the person to adapt to the therapy.

A Workplace Where It's Safe to Be Human. We want Allied Therapy to be a place where people can ask questions, raise concerns, learn, disagree respectfully, and acknowledge when they don't know something. We expect professionalism and accountability while believing clinicians do their best work when they feel trusted, respected, and safe.

Your Employee Package

Depending on employment status and eligibility, Allied Therapy employees may receive:

  • Extended health and dental benefits

  • Paid required meetings, training, and assigned non-clinical responsibilities

  • Administrative support for scheduling, billing, intake, and client coordination

  • Marketing and referral support to build and maintain your caseload

  • Access to multidisciplinary consultation and clinical support

  • Supported caseload development when you first join

  • Opportunities to contribute to groups, workshops, program development, mentorship, and leadership

What You'll Be Doing

You'll manage your own clinical caseload with administrative and clinical support around you. Depending on your professional background and scope, your work may include:

  • Providing individual mental health therapy to children, teens, adults, caregivers, or families

  • Providing certified play therapy using developmentally appropriate and relationship-based approaches

  • Supporting neurodivergent clients experiencing anxiety, regulation challenges, burnout, identity concerns, trauma, life transitions, or difficulties navigating school, work, and relationships

  • Completing intake and clinical assessment processes within your professional scope

  • Developing individualized, collaborative care plans

  • Using trauma-informed, strengths-based, and neurodivergent-affirming approaches

  • Coaching or collaborating with parents and caregivers while protecting the client's autonomy and therapeutic relationship

  • Coordinating care with OTs, SLPs, Behaviour Analysts, physicians, educators, and community providers when appropriate

  • Maintaining clear and timely clinical documentation

  • Participating in required team meetings, consultation, and professional development

Depending on your interests, you may choose to become involved in therapeutic groups, caregiver education, community workshops, resource development, mentorship, and/ or leadership.

Applicants should have:

  • A master's degree in counselling, counselling psychology, social work, psychotherapy, or another relevant mental health discipline

  • Registration and good standing with the appropriate regulatory body, or eligibility for registration before beginning clinical work

  • Training, certification, or meaningful experience relevant to your area of clinical practice

  • A trauma-informed, client-centred, and strengths-based approach

  • Strong clinical reasoning, communication, collaboration, and professional boundary skills

  • Respect for different communication styles, identities, cultures, family structures, and lived experiences

  • Comfort working independently while collaborating when useful

  • Comfort with electronic records and digital tools

  • Clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check

For Play Therapy- Certification in Play Therapy is required. Where the clinician is eligible to work toward certification (with required course work completed), appropriate supervision can be provided.

Additional languages, including French, Arabic, Cantonese, or others, are considered an asset.

You'll Probably Like Working Here If…

You care deeply about doing thoughtful clinical work but also want room for a life outside of work. You want the freedom to practise in a way that reflects your professional values and clinical judgment. You value flexibility and want more control over your caseload, schedule, and working life. You enjoy being independent but don't want to practise in isolation. You appreciate having colleagues from other disciplines who understand that mental health is often connected to communication, sensory needs, executive functioning, relationships, environment, and everyday life. And you want to finish your workday feeling that you did something worthwhile.

Curious? Let's Talk. If you're a registered mental health professional, certified play therapist, or clinician interested in neurodivergent-affirming care and you're curious about building a different kind of practice, we'd be happy to have a conversation.

To apply, send your résumé and a short cover letter telling us about your professional registration, clinical interests, preferred client population, and the kind of practice you'd like to build.
